Possession

Illinois residents aged 21 and older may have 30 grams of marijuana flowers, 500mg of THC-infused edible products, or 5 grams of concentrated. Non-residents of Illinois may buy 15 grams of marijuana, 250 mg of THC in a marijuana-infused product, or 2.5 grams of concentrated marijuana products. Qualifying patients are permitted to have an “enough supply” of medical cannabis. Enough supply refers to 2.5 ounces of usable marijuana. Although, patients might apply for a waiver to have over 2.5-ounce limits based on the medication required for their weakening medical conditions.

Purchasing Limits

Purchasing recreational marijuana is limited only up to 30 grams of marijuana flowers or its equivalent to its other types of form of cannabis products. In order to buy medical cannabis, a qualifying patient should register and have a valid registry ID card by the Department of Public Health. Qualified patients are permitted to buy an “enough supply” of medical cannabis.

The standard measurement of enough supply is around 2.5 ounces every 14 days. A qualifying patient may apply for a waiver to buy for over 2.5 ounces if a doctor provides a written, and signed statement showing that 2.5 ounce is not enough supply to medicate a weakening medical condition. When buying concentrates, edibles, or other cannabis products that aren’t flower, the pre-weight of the cannabis flower used to make the products are added up towards the buying limits.
